Today’s assignment: publish a post based on your own, personalized take on a blogging prompt. The prompt I chose is Pens and Pencils. When was the last time you wrote something substantive — a letter, a story, a journal entry, etc. — by hand? Could you ever imagine returning to a pre-keyboard era?

I loved the way you embraced this theme! Great job!

Thanks Cathy! I love writing and it makes me so sad to see schools removing it from the curriculum.

I must admit I honestly can’t remember when I hand wrote something. That is sad.

When you have some down time – you should scribble a little bit. I think it’s kinda relaxing. :0)

I have taken on colouring. I fund it very soothing. Having a pencil or marker in hand allows me to forget the daily stresses and let’s my imagination wonder.

I just read somewhere that adult coloring books are some of the most sold books on Amazon. Apparently, coloring has the same benefits as mediation. I think I’m going to give it a try.

Like what you did here! I love to put pen (not pencil) to paper , and actually like the physical motion of handwriting. And from what I understand handwriting stimulates our brain in a different way. Still, typing is so much faster and it can be fun too, especially if you are in an oldish laptop who goes clack clack when you type 🙂

Typing is faster – but if I don’t write it out – I spend half the time deleting…

I use a pen and paper every now and then.
I’m told (not politely) to get back to my desktop and send out an email with a word doc instead.
I try scanning the handwritten note into the word doc.
I get an email reply that it would be nice if I would type out via keyboard the contents of the handwritten note.
I break the pencil and burn the paper.

the only time I use pen and paper is when I’m writing down an observation or thought that I want to develop into something more. Its odd- writing a story can only be done on the computer because otherwise it takes too long. But writing down those thoughts and observations can only be done by hand because the alternative isn’t spontaneous enough for that moment.. At least this is how it works for me. Everyone is different.
